Snow covered many parts of Britain on Christmas Day. Scotland, Northern Ireland, north west England and north Wales, woke up to several centimetres of snow making driving hazardous.
Bookmakers faced a big pay out as forecasters had predicted a white Christmas earlier in the week. Further snowfalls and icy conditions are predicted. It is the first white Christmas since 2001. Lucy Verasamy, of the PA WeatherCentre, said: “South west England will get a dusting of snow over the moors.” English counties including Shropshire and Staffordshire have also seen snow. There will be a chance of snow showers for eastern England, but it will be mainly dry and bright in other parts of Britain.
